If you want to know more about English Studies in Lithuania, LAUTE (Association of English Language Teachers of Lithuanian Universities) is the perfect place to start. LAUTE was founded in 1997 and registered at the Ministry of Justice in 1998 – we are now nearing our 30th birthday!
As of 2025, LAUTE consists of 33 members with expertise in a variety of areas, from linguistics to literary studies, from culture to translation, LAUTE aims to showcase the breadth and quality of research and other scholarly initiatives carried out in Lithuania that are globally relevant for English Studies.
LAUTE members automatically become members of ESSE, the European Society for the Study of English, and are therefore eligible for a variety of generous supporting schemes (bursaries, grants, prizes: see ESSE website for details). Being part of a large and vibrant confederation of academic associations underscores LAUTE’s international outlook and ambitions.
All academic staff affiliated with a higher Lithuanian institution and involved in the teaching and/or researching of English language, literature, culture or history are warmly invited to apply by filling out our application form.
Or strategic priorities are:
- Promoting research in any area of English studies to wider audiences, both locally and internationally, through meetings, conferences, seminars, lectures, podcasts, and cultural events programmes;
- Developing relations and fostering cooperation among English departments in Lithuania and throughout Europe;
- Building strategic partnerships with other academic associations, both in Lithuania and abroad;
- Facilitating networking between scholars based in Lithuania and those across the EU and beyond;
- Creating a freely accessible repository of initiatives and resources related to the promotion of English studies in Lithuania (e.g., conferences organised by other associations and institutions, academic journals, links to members’ last publications).
